Bone Grafting
When you have an extraction, it is sometimes necessary to place a “bone graft” in the area of the missing teeth. This especially may be true if you are considering a dental implant in that area. It is also sometimes necessary to perform a bone graft if there is a defect in an area of your mouth, sometimes due to a cyst, congenital defect or traumatic injury.
BONE GRAFTING PROCEDURE
The bone grafting material is placed in the area that needs it and over time, will fuse with your existing bone to provide a solid base. This can take several months to make sure there is adequate bone in the grafted area.
